Hello (lumela)!
I am finally able to communicate with the world! Turns out that my phone was not unlocked and so I had to wait for the unlock code before I could do anything. Life so far in Lesotho is interesting. The views are amazing and the thunder storms are even more incredible. So what have I been up to? Here are some events that stand out:
Day 2 I woke up to a giant ass spider on my wall! Needless to say I did not sleep for two days. First night it was up high on my wall and I was kind of petrified so I just watched it. Then when talking with my host family the next day they told me I should have come and got them so that they can kill it. So second night I am lying in bed, using my head lamp to search for the thing, finally decided I couldn't see it maybe it went away. Like it knew I had decided this, it comes shooting out on top of my cabinet that is directly above my bed. I moved so fast towards my door and got my host family. When they came into my room to kill it though, they only happen to get a leg because then it fell and disappeared, we could not find it anywhere. so I am like great, there goes my sleep tonight. At around 1 am I woke up and it was there on the wall directly at the foot of my bed. I slowly go and unlock my door to the outside, grab my dust pan, pull my bed away from the wall, slowly walk over to it. It then started to move up the wall and I was like heck no, smacked it so hard with the back of my dust pan, opened my door super quickly and used the dust pan to shove it outside and then locked my door as fast as I could. Thus far that has been my only spider incident. knock on wood. Other worldly experiences I have had thus far are: killing a chicken and then cooking it for lunch. That is one of the primary meat sources here in Lesotho. Walking everywhere. I have to walk at least 25-30 minutes to get to school in the morning.
My typical day looks like this so far:
5:30am -wake up and boil water for either my bath for the day or for my water filter.
6:00am- bathing and getting ready to go to school.
6:30am- eating breakfast
7:00 am- Walking to school with fellow volunteers.
7:30am-9am- Seotho language classes
9:00am-12:30pm- Peace corps classes (like health, diversity, hiv/aids, etc.)
12:30pm-1:00- Lunch
1:00-4:00- more classes
4:30- walk home and play with the children in my neighborhood
6:00pm- it is dark outside so we stay inside and cook dinner.
7-9pm - Either watching a movie or playing cards
10pm- when I go to sleep usually.
Then I wake up and do it all over again. Some days there are some changes but for the most part this is what I have been doing. Taking in the culture and learning the language. I will post more soon! BYE for now! :)
